Classic Uganda in nine days: chimpanzees in Kibale Forest, the Queen Elizabeth savannah with the tree-climbing lions of Ishasha, mountain gorillas in Bwindi and a walking safari at Lake Mburo. The price covers the international flight, ground services, insurance and the gorilla and chimpanzee permits.

Northern extension, +€1,550 per person

Three extra days before Kibale, for a 12-day trip: white rhinos tracked on foot at the Ziwa sanctuary, Murchison Falls, a safari among Rothschild’s giraffes and a cruise on the Nile, then Lake Albert. Ask for it in your quote request.

Why it is unique

About half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas live in Uganda. Here you meet them on foot, with the rangers, for one hour beside a family. The chimpanzee day in Kibale and the Queen Elizabeth savannah make this a complete safari: primates, big mammals and a boat trip on the Kazinga Channel.

When to go

Gorillas can be seen all year round. Forest trails are easier in the dry seasons, from June to September and from December to February; March to May and November are wetter.

What the trip is like

Long drives by 4x4, partly on dirt roads: Entebbe to Kibale takes 5-6 hours. Gorilla trekking can last 2 to 6 hours on steep, muddy trails, so a reasonable level of fitness is needed. Permits are bought as soon as you confirm, because places are limited each day.

Good to know

To enter Uganda you need an electronic visa, applied for online before departure, and a yellow fever vaccination certificate. The minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15. The guide speaks English.
