TripsViaggiA safari extension from the Kenyan coast: Tsavo East and the Taita Hills sanctuary in 3 days, private jeep and Italian-speaking guide. From €830. See it./img/elephants-7651446-1280-129e470c-240.webp
A safari extension for those already on holiday on the Kenyan coast: three days between Tsavo East, the country’s largest park, and the Taita Hills sanctuary. The price covers ground services only.
Why it is unique
Tsavo East covers more than 13,000 km² and is one of the largest parks in Kenya. It is famous for its elephants, which look red because they cover themselves in the park’s soil. Taita Hills is a private sanctuary between Tsavo East and Tsavo West, and the Saltlick Safari Lodge lets you watch the animals at the waterhole even after sunset.
When to go
The best months are the dry ones, June to October and January to February, when the animals gather near water. The long rains arrive between April and May, the short rains in November.
What the journey is like
From Watamu it is around 4 hours by road, leaving at 6 am. It is a short, family-friendly safari for those on holiday on the coast who would rather not travel to Nairobi.
Good to know
The price covers ground services only: flights, the beach stay and travel insurance are excluded. You will need the eTA electronic travel authorisation and, since 5 October 2026, Kenya’s compulsory health insurance (US$44).
