Nine days of safari in Botswana sleeping out in nature: mobile tents pitched by the camp crew in the Moremi reserve, at Savuti and along the Chobe river, with guide, cook and drinks included. The price includes the international flight, the light-aircraft flight between Maun and Moremi, camping on full board, the safaris, park fees and insurance.

Why it is unique

This is safari as it used to be: you sleep in tents with proper beds and a private bathroom, pitched at campsites inside the parks, and in the evening you eat around the fire listening to the bush. Moremi, with Xakanaxa and Khwai, is the wild heart of the Okavango Delta, Savuti is famous for lions, wild dogs and elephants, and the Chobe river has the largest elephant herds in Africa.

When to go

Departures run from April to November, on fixed dates. From July to October, in the dry season, the animals gather near water and safari is at its best: it costs more. April, May, June and November cost less, with the bush still green.

What the trip is like

It is a group safari with other guests, 2 to 12 people, in two open vehicles if the group is full. A dedicated crew, guide, cook and assistants, moves the camp from one park to the next. The tents are walk-in, with floors, mosquito gauze, beds with linen and a private bathroom with a bucket shower. Departures alternate between the two directions, Maun to Kasane and Kasane to Maun.

Good to know

Fixed departures roughly every ten days: in May, for example, on the 7th, 16th and 25th. Minimum age 12, no single supplement (a maximum of three single tents per departure). Baggage of 20 kilos in a soft bag. The mokoro may become a motorboat depending on water levels. Italian citizens enter Botswana without a visa; malaria prophylaxis is recommended in the north. Insurance with cancellation and medical evacuation is compulsory and included. A 20% non-refundable deposit, balance 45 days before departure. The “from” price applies in April, May, June and November; from July to October it costs about €1,030 more per person. Two nights at Xakanaxa, two at Khwai, two at Savuti and two on the Chobe river; departures from Kasane do the same route in reverse. The programme may change with weather, roads and campsite availability.
