In short

The app has no account and asks for no password. What you record — packing list, sightings, stamps, the linked trip, saved trips — stays on your phone and isn’t sent to anyone. Your data only reaches us when you send it: booking code and surname to link a booked trip; name, email and phone when you ask for a quote or a tailor-made trip; your email when you sign up for the newsletter; your location if you choose to share it with us from the SOS screen.

What stays on your phone

The linked trip (destination and dates, or code and itinerary), the ticks on your packing list, sightings, stamps and certificates with the day you recorded them, the language and nationality you chose, and the last location detected. “Unlink this trip” removes the trip; everything else stays until you uninstall the app.

What comes from the website

Itineraries, prices, articles and photos are downloaded from weltweg.com when you open the app. The website’s server receives the request as it would from any browser: IP address, date and time, in the site’s technical logs (Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany). It receives no app identifier and nothing you have recorded.

Booking code and surname

When you link a trip booked with Weltweg, the app sends the code and surname to weltweg.com over an encrypted connection, only to recognise your booking. In return it receives your itinerary and a personal key, which stays in your phone’s keychain and is valid until 60 days after you return: it is used to receive changes to the programme. The surname you type is not stored: it is compared with the booking we already have. To stop anyone trying random codes, failed attempts are counted for one hour, using a non-reversible fingerprint of the IP address.

Quotes and tailor-made trips

When you ask for the price of a trip or send “Create your trip”, the app sends weltweg.com, over an encrypted connection, what you wrote: name, email, phone if you give it, notes, the trip or your choices in the trip builder (month, length, countries, style, comfort, travellers) and the trips you saved. They are used only to prepare your proposal and get back to you (legal basis: pre-contractual steps you requested). Requests reach Weltweg’s management system and are kept for as long as needed for the proposal and for legal obligations; they are not passed on to third parties. You can ask for them to be deleted at hello@weltweg.com.

Newsletter

If you sign up, the app sends your email to weltweg.com; you receive an email to confirm (double opt-in) and without confirmation we won’t write to you. We use it only for Weltweg’s monthly newsletter (legal basis: your consent). You can unsubscribe at any time from the link at the bottom of every email.

Location

The app asks for it when you tap “Find my location” on the map or open SOS, and uses it only while the app is open: to show where you are, recognise the country and its emergency numbers, trigger the stamp when you enter a park and the certificate when you cross the Tropic or the Equator. These uses stay on your phone.

If in SOS you choose “Share my location with Weltweg”, and only then, the app sends weltweg.com your location and its accuracy, with the trip code and the reason you chose, for as long as you decide (1, 2 or 4 hours) and only while the app is open: never in the background. Weltweg staff see it in order to help you (legal basis: your request for assistance under the travel contract); the points are deleted 30 days after you return. You can stop it at any time from the red strip at the top.

You can refuse location access: stamps can be added by hand and in SOS you pick the country from the list.

Reminders

If you turn them on, they are notifications scheduled on your phone: they don’t go through any server.

What the app doesn’t do

No advertising, no usage analytics, no tracking. Cards leave your phone only if you choose to share them.

If the app crashes

When it is switched on, an error reporting service (Sentry) may send us the type of error, the phone model and the app version: technical data, without your name and without anything you recorded. It is used to fix bugs. In the current version it is switched off.

Children

The app is not intended for children under 14 and does not knowingly collect data about them.

Your rights
